‘ have a special place in my heart for owls and moreporks from childhood. My mother is the owl and we had one of the greatest relationships, fabulous woman. Through my life she encouraged me to live a life that meant I could be happy being me. This saw the challenge of the status quo and explore new ideas.
This painting is a huge part of that idea. The liquid charcoal is a new product from Schminke, Germany. Charcoal isn’t used on canvas generally speaking, it is used on paper substrates. I wanted to explore its possibilities and not just for underpaintings and drawing.’
