New Zealand’s Fantail, the beloved Pīwakawaka, is a symbol of liveliness and gentle joy, its spirited presence captured with warmth and movement. In creating this work, Claire-Erica was drawn to sustainably sourced Cherry Pip Charcoal by Schmincke, an innovative medium crafted from discarded cherry pips from the cherry bottling industry. Inspired by this thoughtful transformation of waste into artistry, she enthusiastically explored the expressive possibilities of this remarkable material. It is heartening that in our time, artists have access to such high-quality, environmentally conscious tools—opening fresh and inventive pathways for creative expression.
