Contemplation Kingfisher
The Kingfisher, otherwise known as the Kotare, New Zealand's Sacred Kingfisher, said to be the first bird to fly from Noah's ark after the deluge, supposedly received the orange of the setting sun on its breast and the blue of the sky on its back. A symbol of peace, promising prosperity and love.
Contemplation holds a special meaning for Claire, inspired by being in the present. Spending time with her mother as a young child and listening to the birds in the garden, Kingfisher being one of them.
The Sacred Kingfisher, is a n iconic bird that can been seen from the studio window. Working from her photographic observations the details and characters of these precious birds hold a lot of fascination for her.
The composition is about the connectivity with each day that we hold with ourselves to be in the moment. We used to look outside of ourselves for that which we needed and now we look inside for our own internal guidance, just like the Kotare. They are loyal and dedicated to their family, they are true beauty we don't see every day unless we look.
